PSA topic

My topic is going to be on digital security because i feel thats important when it comes to using technology. People need to be aware when they are on the computer and what not. If a person is not aware then they can lose important information. They can also be place in difficult situations.

DIGITAL ACCESS

America Offline-

Digital Divide- The digital divide in the United States is extremely huge.

Unequal Access- The United States has a large unequal access to internet.

Innovators- Their are innovators in the U.S. trying to fix the problem of low internet access throughout our country.

What are the options for better Access? To be able to make all the communities be able to get on the grid and help them afford better internet access so could improve as a country.

Explain the Final Recommendations?Government should create better incentives for those seeking to build new networks (e.g., grants, tax incentives and subsidies).

Government should treat broadband as a public utility like electricity, water systems and roads.

Federal legislation should be established to ensure universal access and user choice.

Local communities should be free to build their own networks (e.g., municipal wireless and fiber), and to establish technology centers.

The public needs to be better engaged with Internet access and choice issues.

What could be done to increase internet access and create more choices for communities nationwide? government should treat broadband as a public utility like electricity, water systems and roads. (38.8 percent)

federal rules should be established to ensure universal access and user choice. (32.8 percent)

What actions need to be taken to keep the internet open for users and innovators?passing federal rules that mandate openness across all internet networks. (68.8 percent)

passing federal rules that protect internet innovation. (6 percent)

Evaluation of Total Project
Investigation was tough because i picked two different projects to compare but each of these were not the best way to approach this problem of teaching six graders. The ones i picked were flip book and comic maker. Both of these were not so good, but i ended up picking flip book.

Plan i approach the step by looking at the different things i can do with flip book and see which would be the best way to fix the problem. And i made 3 different designs and decided which would be the most effective way to fix the problem.

Create step was the step that i figured out that flip book wasn't the best way to fix the problem. The pages on flip book flipped to fast and i only had a limited amount of pages and i should have figured this out in investigation.

Evaluate step was my favorite because it helped me review everything that could help me fix my next project when going through each of the steps. And now when i approach each problem i will review appropriately and patient

Evaluation

Today I was able to finish my final product, create the survey, and test the 7th grade student. Today was a really productive day because I was able to get all of these things done. The project came out pretty well and the survey clearly tested the students understanding of the design cycle. My survey was 3 questions multiple choice and 2 true or false questions. The final product also came out pretty well. I still need to test two more students to really get better result on whether my product is what i want it to be.
My project

This is my final product, it is a video on GoAnimate. The reason my final product is not a flipbook is because I was unable to create a good product because of the lack of space on flipbook to put my information and also because the transition between the pages is to quick. In GoAnimate I was able to put all my information.
I feel that the accent of the character was really difficult to understand, but if you pay close attention then you will be able to understand enough to learn the design cycle.

Survey

How many steps are there in the design cycle?
A. 4
B. 6
C. 3
D. 2

What is the first step of the design cycle?
A.Evaluate
B.Plan
C.Investigate
D.Create

What is the last step of the design cycle?
A.Plan
B.Evaluate
C.Create
D.Investigate

On the create step you evaluate your product.
True
False

On the investigate step you identify the problem.
True
False

Evaluation of the survey
The result the 7th grader had was an 80%. He got 4 out of the 5 question correct out of the survey. The student seemed like he understood most of the design cycle but I feel he kind of struggled with the accent of my character in the video. The way that i tested the student helped him because he had options in picking the answer.

Progress

my progress

Today i had to start my project all over again. I switch out of using flipbook because i struggled a lot with fitting the information and the pages changed to quick. I believed that flipbook would not be the best way to teach a 6th grader about it. It wouldn't have been efficient enough.

Design Brief
10. Write a short statement of what you are going to make, why you are going to make it, and for whom you are making it. I will use a Flip Book to teach the 6th grader will be able to understand the design cycle and simple enough, so the student would not be confused.
Formulate a Design Specification
11. What are the requirements for this assignment? My requirements are to make it simple and keep it over the time limit and use maximum 100 pages on the Flip Book tool website.
12. What are the limitations you have with this assignment? Well the reason I have to use 100 pages is because I am limited to 100 pages.
13. How will you "test" your project? At the end of my presentation and I will give the students a 5 question quiz and the passing score would be 4/5 questions correct and up.

INVESTIGATION REFLECTION

I feel this investigation has gone really well. I have got a lot information that will make my final product much better. I discussed my problem, which is how to teach a 6th grade student the design cycle with a final product I make using the design cycle. I compared two different ideas that would help with my final product. The sources/ideas that i compared were a Flip Book on http://www.benettonplay.com/toys/flipbookdeluxe/index.php and a comic on http://www.comicmaster.org.uk/. I compared these two products with 4 specifications. I was able to decide which project would be most efficent in teaching the 6th the design cycle. The Flip Book was really simple, yet I could still do so much with this idea. Once I picked my idea I designed 3 different designs on how I will use the product. I feel I deserve a 5 in the criterian, because I done all the specifications on the rubric to get such a score.

Three Designs

FlipBook #1: Page 1-4 it will start of with a picture of design cycle. Page 4-20 will have definitions of each coming in and out. Page 21-50 will have a story of a person trying to explain the design cycle. Page 50-65 finish of with a creative ending so the students get a better understanding.

FlipBook #2: Page 1-25 Starts of with a character introducing himself. Then he will explain the basics of the design cycle. Page 26-45 will be a humorous scene where the kids could get a clearer understanding and also enjoy there attention throughout the FlipBook. They might have a character getting a little hurt. Page 46-60 i will end the whole FlipBook with a funny and informational exit scene.

FlipBook #3: Page 1-25 Will start of purely educational with the design cycle and the definition of each of the steps of the design cycle. There will be a picture for each slide. Page 25-60 it will just be necessary information that you need to know to know of the design cycle with a few humorous throughout it all. Then just finish really quick once all information is shown.

-Flip Book - Interesting and it had a lot of control on how you actually want the background and much more. It is really simple but it is time consuming and it has a limit to 100 pages if you are not a member.

-Comic Book - It has the basic structure already set up and it is a little difficult when you first open it, but it has a tutorial that helps out. It has already set characters and backgrounds which is limited to certain things.

They were really close but the comic strip came up 1 point short. It was 17 for comic book and 18 flip book.

I believe it was thanks to the simplicity is why it won it got a 5 because it was so simple to use when you first opened. It practically explains itself so you don't need a tutorial at all. I really enjoyed how you can do so much and that its so simple.

I also feel it was really annoying because i felted limited to certain things when i was using the comic strip and i feel like i can place more things i like on the flip book so i can correctly teach the student. So i gave options a 5.

Flip book was the one that got a lot more points. The reason for that is because the simplicity was outstanding and it had a lot of freedom when it comes to creating the final product. I can practically draw anything i like that is why i gave entertainment a 5 and options 4.

The layout wasn't as strong as it could have been, so i gave it a 4. It was lacking a lot in that area but it gave me the chance to add as much as i want on each page. I felt i could take advantage of that completely. The flip book pages were limited but it doesn't matter because I don't really need that many pages.

The Comic Book lost just by 1 point because of one spot that i was comparing because of the simplicity of the project.

The layout was already set so i gave a 5 for this and also the project also seemed entertaining so i gave it a 5. The layout was really strong and i could do so much with the layout. It also gave different types of backgrounds.

Options i gave it a 4 because it is really limited. The layout was really strong and it had a very nice structure but i was very limited on what you could put or how you wanted your background. I felt the options that the backgrounds were given would not be good enough to placed in a project that would teach about the design cycle.

Entertainment i gave it a 5 because it seems like a student would really enjoy it but honestly i don't feel a story could be made with the options given so that's why the flip book has more possibilities.

The product will be a flipbook that will help the student learn how to use the design cycle.

Reflection
I chose the flipbook because it was better than the comic strip, but i was unaware of how both of these lacked tremendously when trying to teach young students the design cycle. The step I should have taken in this part should have been to pick products that seemed more successful and not the first ones i saw.

http://www.comicmaster.org.uk/
The first idea that I was to make a comic or flip book. Honestly this one was a little to difficult to understand at first. I like how it gives us the options on the background and how we want our book to look like. They also give us the options for characters and props. It has nice explanation on how to use it but i sort of struggled when i first go on. It doesn't give us enough options to pick the structure of the page and it has a few basic effects. It also gives us options to type in text and thoughts. This might be able to keep a 6th grader preoccupied and be able to learn the design cycle.

http://www.benettonplay.com/toys/flipbookdeluxe/index.php
This ideawas to create a flip book. As soon as I opened the page it seemed really easy to unand what exactly to do. It goes straight to the point, and it doesn't need a tutorial to explain any detail about using this product. You have a lot more freedom in this product to create how you want to teach the student. It has less structure but you can do whatever you like

My task is to create a product to teach a 6th grader the design cycle. I will reflect daily and compare two ideas that i have and find out which product will help me best in teaching a young student.
This is important because informing young students on the design cycle will better prepare them when faced with a problem in the future. Using the products above will help me teach the student. Soon i will compare them in depth.

Which of the two products above will better catch the students attention and help them truly grasp the whole concept of the design cycle. One is a comic strip online while the other is a flip book online. Both of these are both entertaining.

Design Folder

Area of Interaction: Community and Service , Approaches to Learning & Human Ingenuity
Significant Concept: Design Cycle can be used to solve problems
Unit Question: How can my learning help my community? How do I make Sound Choices?
INVESTIGATE: (Write in complete sentences) Identify the Problem
1. What is the problem you need to solve? Explain to a 6th grader what the design cycle is all about by creating a presentation. (3d, PPT, movie, game, Poster)
2. How does the Design Cycle apply to the real world? It will help understand the problems in a different way and approach it with understanding.
3. How will this project serve my community? It will give a young student and opportunity to do better in life with knowing the design cycle.
4. How can my learning help my community? I'll be able to help others, because now i understand the design cycle.
5. How do we live in relation to each other? We interact with others all the time, so we should
6. How does this help others? This give them a better understanding on how to approach a problem.
7. What are the requirements for this assignment? To be able to teach a 6th grader the design cycle while using all the steps on the design cycle.
8. What is the Design Cycle? The design cycle is 4 steps that help approach a problem with order.
REFLECT on your learning. I was able to get a better understanding of the design cycle so I'd be aware on how to present the 4 steps to a 6th grader who doesn't understand the steps.
Day 2
9. Spend one day experimenting with DESIGN CYCLE your presentation. List five things your learned about the Design Cycle:
Day 3
Design Brief
10. Write a short statement of what you are going to make, why you are going to make it, and for whom you are making it.
